My editor at Penguin gave me a tip recently. Maybe ‘tip’ is too light-handed. Golden Rule? Yes, it is a Golden Rule. My editor said:
The clearer the message, the more impact it will have on the reader.
I suppose that this is really true in life generally, but in children’s books it would appear to be a Golden Rule. My lovely assessor saw it and was so excited by it that she asked if I would find out if my editor would mind being quoted. So there you go, Cori’s first Writing-For-Kids Golden Rule.
